You are invited to join The Cottage, Shepparton’s drug and alcohol recovery facility, at a panel discussion and celebration event.
Promoting community connectedness, discussing addiction, and how, together, we can address this health issue.
Guest speaker, Maria Hutchison, will launch her breathtakingly honest account of her child sex abuse, subsequent addictions and how she triumphed. Maria will launch her autobiography, Facing Maria, which shares her life story of overcoming adversity, abuse and trauma and sending the powerful message that healing is possible.

Professor Edward Ogden, a specialist in addiction medicine at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne and the Goulburn Valley Health Service in Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley will also present at the event. Professor Ogden has a long and decorated career in treating addiction, including with the Victoria Police in various roles from 1978 to 2012, including 11 years full-time in the Department of Forensic Medicine and 17 years as Principal Medical Advisor.
“Until we see addiction as a health issue and the underlying traumas of life are the cause, we as a society will remain stuck in fear of drugs. By hearing stories from, and mixing with, those with lived experience, we share our common humanity,” The Cottage’s, Rob Bryant.
